September 11th, 2020

Dean Rincon Vista Families,

We know that families are facing an important decision for whether or not to have students attend school in the hybrid format; I want to provide you with updated information as it becomes available.

The Return To School Information page on our website has been recently updated with additional sections and information for you to reference. This webpage can be accessed by clicking HERE.

The Hybrid Phase daily schedule for each team is available HERE. Students will keep the same classes with the same teachers they currently have.  Class times, however, have been changed to allow for Specials and Reteach/Enrich to be added to the schedule. Advisor Base meeting times have changed for most teams as well. Students will go to their Advisor Base teacher for the Reteach/Enrich period at the end of the day.

As a reminder, the parent survey for choosing between Hybrid and Brick to Click will need to be completed by Sunday evening. The survey can be accessed HERE. You may submit another response if you have changed your mind; we will move forward with the most recent response recorded for your child.

Lastly, there is a correction to previous information sent regarding half-days. The only half-day changed to a full-day was September 2nd. All other half-days this semester will remain as half-days, including next Wednesday, September 16th. Teachers will provide instruction as usual, but with adjusted times. All students will follow the schedule below:

Core Class 1 8:00am-9:00am

Core Class 2 9:00am-10:00am

Core Class 3 10:00am-11:00am

Core Class 4 11:00am-12:00pm

As always, thank you for your patience, understanding, and grace as we navigate through each phase of school this year. We are excited to welcome our students back onto campus soon!

Sincerely,

Dean Nourse

Principal

September 9th, 2020

Dear Rincon Vista Families,

Superintendent Carruth shared in his previous correspondence that we are targeting September 21st as the date for when we will transition to the hybrid learning phase of opening schools. Like most things during the COVID-19 pandemic, this assumes that conditions continue to improve and do not get worse.

As we begin our next phase of learning, I want to ensure that you are informed of what the Hybrid and Brick to Click models will look like on our campus.

Daily Schedule

Our structured class periods for all students will take place from 8:00am-1:50pm. Hybrid and Brick to Click (B2C) students will have: Advisor Base, 4 core classes, a Specials class, and a Reteach/Enrich Period. All off-campus learners are expected to follow their schedule to the best of their ability. Team-specific class times will be emailed to parents and students next week.

Teachers will also host office hours for all students Monday-Thursday 2:15pm-3:15pm and Friday 10:00am-11:00am.

Fridays will be asynchronous for all students.

Hybrid vs B2C Instruction

Hybrid students will receive two days of on-campus in-person instruction through Schoology and three days of off-campus instruction through Schoology each week. B2C students will receive five days of off-campus instruction through Schoology each week.

Hybrid Acknowledgment Form

As a condition of returning to campus for hybrid instruction, parents/guardians will need to sign an acknowledgement form for their child. This is a stipulation put forth by the District’s insurance carrier. This form will be emailed to you next week by the District Office via eSignGenie. A cover letter and the acknowledgement form are available for preview now (cover letter; acknowledgement form).

Hybrid Cohort Groups

Students will be split into two groups (A & B) based on the first letter of their last name. Students in group A will attend school on-campus Mondays and Wednesdays and students in group B will attend school on-campus Tuesdays and Thursdays. To create consistency in our groupings, students were separated at different points in the alphabet for each team. Please see the chart below for which group your child will be in.

We will work with families to ensure that all students from the same family attend school on the same days. Please contact me if you have children at Rincon Vista or at other schools who are scheduled to attend school on different days.

A Group (M&W) B Group (T&TH)
6th Grade Team Rincon Last names beginning with A-H Last names beginning with I-Z
6th Grade Team Vista Last names beginning with A-K Last names beginning with L-Z
7th Grade Team Navy Last names beginning with A-G Last names beginning with H-Z
7th Grade Team Spirit Last names beginning with A-M Last names beginning with N-Z
8th Grade Team Silver Last names beginning with A-K Last names beginning with L-Z
8th Grade Team Last names beginning with A-L Last names beginning with M-Z

Returning to Campus

It is important to note that every staff member and student on our campus will be required to perform a daily wellness check at home, wear a face covering on campus, and have their temperature taken on-campus every morning. I encourage you to read through our Return To School Information on our website to learn more about the home daily wellness check and other safety protocols we have in place at Rincon Vista.

If you have not already completed the “Hybrid Learning Phase” survey for each child at Rincon Vista, the survey will close Sunday, September 13th. The survey can be found HERE:

We hope you continue to stay well, and we look forward to partnering with you during this next phase of learning.

Sincerely,

Dean Nourse

Principal

August 31, 2020

Dear Rincon Vista Families,

I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable weekend!

I would like to provide a few updates and clarify some of the things happening during remote instruction.

This Wednesday, September 2nd, will NOT be a half day as it is identified on the most recently approved calendar. September 16th and November 4th will also be full school days. The in-service training planned for teachers on those days will, instead, be delivered on asynchronous Fridays.

To clarify asynchronous Fridays, teachers will be posting lessons or activities for students to complete on those days. Students will not have to log in “live” to meet with their teachers as they normally do Monday – Thursday. The only time teachers will be “live” on Fridays is during their regularly scheduled time for office hours. Teachers will also be responding to questions via email throughout the day. Students should catch up on missing or late work after they complete their assigned work on Fridays.

I also recognize the importance of specials classes (Art, Music, P.E., and STEM) for our students. I have been trying to balance the demands placed on students and families by the remote instructional model and adding these classes into our students’ daily routine. The specialist teachers are currently working with all of our teams to provide additional support to the students who are struggling with core content classes remote instruction. We will start our specials classes as students become more proficient with remote instruction, and we can fade the support they are providing.

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Dean Nourse

Principal

August 21, 2020

Dear Rincon Vista Families,

We hope you and your family are doing well and staying safe. One of the Vail School District’s guiding principles is to continually look for better and more efficient ways to meet the needs of our families. Based on feedback we have received from students, parents, and staff members, we are moving to four days of synchronous instruction (live conferences) and one day of asynchronous instruction (students work through lessons and assigned tasks independently, no live conferences). On the asynchronous day, teachers will be available from 8:00 – 2:50 via email and Schoology messages to support students and answer questions. Students can still log in to teacher’s office hours during their scheduled time on the asynchronous day.

The asynchronous day for instruction at Rincon Vista will be every Friday starting August 28th. This will provide students the opportunity to complete their assigned tasks for each class, catch-up on missing work, check grades in PowerSchool, and attend office hours with their teachers.

It is our honor to partner with you for your child’s education.

Sincerely,
Dean Nourse
Principal

August 3rd, 2020

Dear Rincon Vista Families,

We are one week away from the start of the 2020/2021 school year and I want to provide information about how remote instruction will take place for RVMS students. Please see the tables at the end of this letter for times when students will log in for their classes. Office hours are optional and will be a time for students to ask questions and receive help in any of their classes. Teachers will share information on how students can connect with them during office hours when classes begin.

When we begin classes on Monday, August 10, 2020, students will need to begin their day by logging into Schoology and navigating to their Advisory Course. All instruction throughout the school day will be provided through each class’ Schoology course that students are automatically enrolled in. When it is time for each class period to begin, students will simply change the course they are viewing and navigate to the day’s work. Detailed instructions for accessing materials will be provided by each teacher as we do remote learning, but if you or your student need help navigating to Schoology courses, please see the RVMS Technology Resources page for a how-to (this will be available no later than Wednesday, August 5).

Students will not have to attend Lit Skills, Specials, or Reteach/Enrich to begin the school year. We will assess our remote instruction model on a weekly basis to help us determine when to start phasing in these classes.

Within a 60-minute class period, students can expect online instruction for approximately 30 minutes. Students will be expected to work on classwork/homework for the remainder of the period that will help reinforce and solidify the concepts taught that day. Teachers will stay online to answer questions and support students if they need it.

Students can expect to take assessments, such as quizzes, tests, and formatives during the time remote instruction is happening. Grades will be earned using the standard A-F grading system. Teachers will provide frequent feedback on classwork and assessments.

As a reminder, our virtual Meet the Teacher event is taking place on Tuesday, August 4th. You will receive a link to the Zoom session you signed up for later today. This will be a time for teachers to introduce themselves and show families their classrooms. Due to time limitations, please email teachers if you have any questions about their class.

Once we know the date for when teacher-led in-person instruction will begin, we will organize campus tours for sixth graders and other new RVMS students.

If you have technology questions or need to schedule a time to pick up a Chromebook for your student, please contact our Site Technology Coordinator Ms. Porter at porterj@vailschooldistrict .org

Sincerely,

Dean Nourse

Principal

July 28th, 2020

Dear Rincon Vista Families,

The buzz and energy from a new school year nearly beginning is starting to make its way onto our campus! Staff members are trickling in to set up and get things ready for instruction to begin soon.

Thank you to everyone who has picked up their Chromebook, or scheduled a time to pick it up, this week. You can still schedule a time to come in and pick up your child’s school-issued computer by using this link.

Teachers officially return to campus this Friday to start preparing engaging, interactive, and rigorous lessons for students. It’s important to remember that the remote instruction for the start of this year will look vastly different from the review-based learning opportunities during the end of last year. Students will be expected to both be online during the time their classes are regularly scheduled and turn in completed work on time for a grade.

We understand the excitement students have from starting a new school year and meeting their teachers. To help students become familiar with their teachers before the first day of classes, we are hosting a virtual Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday, August 4, 12:30pm-2:30pm. Teachers will host brief meetings via Zoom as a team to introduce themselves and give a quick tour of their rooms. Please use the links in the team names below to sign up for a Zoom time with your child’s team of teachers. You can look at your child’s schedule on PowerSchool and use the table below to find out which team your child will be on this year. You will have a Zoom link emailed to you for the time slot you sign up for on or before August 3rd. Be sure to sign up for a time to meet our Specialists too! Our Special Education staff will reach out individually to the families of their students during the week of August 3.

July 17th, 2020

Dear Rincon Vista Families,

I hope this letter finds you and your family doing well and staying healthy. In the short time I have been on campus, it is easy to see that the Rincon Vista staff is full of people who deeply care about students and want to provide a safe and rich educational experience for our Roadrunners. This school year will be completely different from anything we have ever done, but our staff will shine while providing ways for our students to be successful.

In light of Governor Ducey’s executive order a few weeks ago, Vail schools are opening remotely on August 10th. It’s important to note that our approach to remote learning will be very different from the review-based general education opportunities that were offered during the fourth quarter of the 2019-20 school year. We hope the information below will help you have a better understanding of how the beginning of the coming school year will look.

Remote Learning

  • Students are expected to attend class with their assigned teachers remotely for Advisor Base and their four core content classes (Math, Language Arts, Science & Social Studies).
  • For students unable to join their class, the day’s direct instructional materials will be uploaded to Schoology.
  • Class periods will include 30 minutes (maximum) of direct instruction and 30 minutes of time to complete assignments.
  • Students will be able to engage with their teachers through email or via online conferencing during their scheduled class period and/or office hours.
  • The daily schedule for each team will be sent out prior to the start of classes.
  • If remote instruction continues beyond the week of August 10th, we will phase in specialist classes and reteach in the future.

Elements of Remote Instruction

  • The structure of instruction will parallel typical in-person instruction with bell work, direct instruction, independent practice, checks for understanding, and student feedback as the primary framework components.
  • Lessons will focus on mastery learning of grade-level standards.
  • Student work will be turned in and graded.
  • Grades based on mastery of the standards will be assigned beginning the first week of remote instruction.
  • Student feedback will be given regularly throughout the week.
  • Students will take formatives, quizzes, and tests.

Student Schedules

  • Schedules will be available on PowerSchool beginning Monday, July 20th.
  • If you are not already familiar with PowerSchool/Schoology, information regarding parent login and set up can be accessed through the following links:
  • Please feel free to contact Ms. Porter, our Site Technology Coordinator for assistance with PowerSchool/Schoology at porterj@vailschooldistrict.org.

Computer Check-Out

  • All RVMS students will be provided a Chromebook this year.
  • In order for students to be able to take their device home, families need to do the following:
  • Families are able to schedule their Chromebook check-out on the following days/times:
    • July 27 & 29-30, 2020: 8:30am – 4pm.
    • July 28, 2020: 11am – 7pm.
  • If you’d prefer to have your student use his/her personal device throughout the school year, please refer to our Bring-Your-Own-Device Requirements and guidelines. When we return to school in-person, you’ll need to submit signed paperwork allowing your personal device on campus. NO personal Chromebooks can be used on campus.
  • For detailed information and copies of all computer paperwork, please visit the Technology Resources section on the RVMS Website.

Supply Lists

As we get ready for school, we know families would like to prepare for the supplies needed. You’ll find each grade level’s supply list below:

Meet the Teacher

Arrangements are being made for a virtual “Meet the Teacher” event on August 4th. More information will be forthcoming.

The patience and understanding you have extended us during these trying times has been very much appreciated. Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education. I look forward to working with you and your child!

Sincerely,

Dean Nourse
